Elk Creek Hunt Club and Sporting Clays

Elk Creek is a rather new shooting facility in Owenton,
Kentucky. It is located in the middle of a triangle formed
by Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville. The terrain
provides for some of the most variety in target
presentations that I have seen since the World FITASC
sporting clay championships at Goodwood racetrack in
England. In fact, the rolling hills and valleys immediately
brought back memories of that tournament.
I just recently visited this shooting ground for the
first annual Kruger Cup. The competition is named after Jon
Kruger, a perennial sporting clay champion -- and partner in
this shooting facility -- both in the states and abroad.
This first major event drew over 450 shooters and has
quickly become a "can't miss" event.
The sporting clay course is situated on a fifty-acre
tract of hardwoods, cedars and rolling hills. It is an ideal
site for sporting clays. Jon made full use of the terrain to
design a course that will challenge any shot. Whether you
are shooting targets flying through a gully or settling in
over one of the ponds your interest will be constantly
peaked.
If you find some of these targets to be somewhat
intimidating, never fear, Jon will be available on a
quarterly basis for shooting clinics. This is one of the
most interesting courses anywhere. Make sure you arrange for
a golf cart, since the walk is quite strenuous.
If hunting is your passion, you have not been left out.
Elk Creek has a variety of hunting packages for quail,
pheasant, turkey and deer. The shooting preserve encompasses
four hundred acres of upland fields and woodlands.
Elk Creek's first-class clubhouse offers a pro-shop,
restaurant, and overnight lodging.
